The DIT Chair

Category: Make it yourself

Compiling last week’s eBaywatch, I was reminded of designer Tord Boontje, he of Garland lamp shade fame. Visiting his studio’s website I discovered the D.I.T. Chair. What an attractively simple chair it is.

The D.I.T. (Do It Together) Chair is so named because it comes as a kit, complete with Boontje’s invitation: “Let’s make a chair together.” It’s a collaborative process between the studio, the designers and us, the buyers.

The kit comes with everything you need: pre-cut, pre-drilled pieces and all the fixings, including charmingly old-school but practical wing nuts.

It looks like the instructions are printed on the pieces themselves. What an elegant solution.

All you need to do is assemble it and paint or varnish it if you prefer not to leave the wood unfinished. I’m sorely tempted to get one.

You can order one for yourself on Boontje’s website.
