eBaywatch, 23rd August 2026: Space Age

I suspect this is one of the most misused descriptors for furniture on ebay. Search “space age” and you’ll get items that wouldn’t look out of place in the Hilton Space Station lobby in 2001: a space odyssey.
You’ll also get items that make you wonder if the seller is thinking of a different meaning of the word. The following is a slightly random selection of items from both of these camps.
I need a coffee table. I’m thinking of making something but that doesn’t stop me being very tempted by this gorgeous yellow thing.
This mirror was a click away from being in my bedroom. But I was too slow.
OK, here’s the first misdescribed piece. I love it but it’s hardly a prop from a sci-fi film (unless said film is about time travel). A slightly ornate coat and hat stand.
I’m intrigued by this coffee table. The seller has a few, in different colours and different conditions. All dead stock or display models, apparently.
I can find absolutely nothing about Desfab of Beckenham online. This is either a well constructed fictional backstory by someone who’s knocking them out in their garage or something potentially very rare. I have no idea but either way it’s a striking piece of furniture. Love how they’ve paired it a very traditional tea cup and saucer in the promo photo.
Next weird one is a listing for these - I imagine - church chairs.
On the subject of church chairs, I’ve always loved these ones Dick Russell designed for Coventry Cathedral. Definitely not space age.
Back on the sci-fi tip, this pair of chairs look fun. Not sure how comfy they’ll be but they might make a good pair of occasional chairs, if that’s something you do.
The moulded plastic of this little mirror is the kind of thing that I picture when I think space age furniture. Still boxed but a little dinged up. It’s hardly an Ultrafragola but it won’t set you back a few thousand.
I wasn’t aware of these Casala chairs by Alexander Begge. I love its flowing lines.
Saving the best for last, how about this purple 70s bathroom suite, complete with a full set of co-ordinated plastic accessories? If those frosted mirror tiles are included you’ll have to fight me for it.
