Category: Buy Secondhand

A bit late due to a lost draft. But the good news is that this is now weekly.

Cheap as chips

More candlesticks. Well, tealight holders. I’d not seen these little Alessi things before, but I like. They make a change from Iittala Kivis.

They just scrape in under my totally arbitrary limit of £50 for this section. And the seller is open to offers which means you should be able to get them for less. Now that I think about it, £50 for a pair of tealight holders could be a touch extravagant. In which case, move it on to…

Somewhere in the middle

This chair has some personality. It’s a little cheeky. The legs join the seat in slightly surprising places. You’d expect the front two to be closer to the front of the seat, wouldn’t you? I would.

Anyway, I’ve no idea if this is good value but if I was looking for a mid-century style chair, I’d be tempted.

Blow the budget

I love Jack Grimble’s work. Correction: I love a lot of his furniture. The more whimsical, fit-for-a-Hobbit pieces are not quite my thing. But the arts and craftyness of many of his stools and coffee tables I find truly beautiful. And then there’s this monster. A whole sideboard in classic Grimble style.

I absolutely love this thing but, honestly, it would be totally out of place at Decmatic HQ. I’m going to have to wait till I get my Martijn Doolaard alpine hut or a bothy in the Scottish highlands, for something like this to work.

At £600 it’s not typical Blow the Budget territory. But a piece this size would certainly blow the space budget in a small flat. Compared to some of the prices people are asking for much smaller Grimble pieces, this seems great value. Perhaps this should go in the Cheap as Chips section.

That’s it for this week. Happy hunting!

Patrick
